"Never Again", King David

This is song from the short lived Disney musical King David. King David opened on May 18th '97 in the newly remodeled New Amsterdam theater, before Lion King claimed success there the following year. With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice, both Disney boys, the music has a very predictable ring to it but, that's not always a bad thing. The way this song naturally swells and dissipates, it sticks in your head very easily.

The show closed on May 23rd just 6 performances after its' opening. Cast recordings of this production are rare, I have found a few copies on Amazon, but even they are upwards of $120. Yikes! Also, a little fun fact, the cast was a very eclectic who's who of the future of Broadway, including Alice Ripley, Roger Bart, Hunter Foster, and Judy Kuhn who originally sang this song.

This is sung by Michal, King David's wife, as she realizes the change in her husband regarding his affair with Bathsheba. There used to be a much better video of this on Youtube but it was recently taken off, Youtube, I'm lookin' at you. This girl's a little flat but she'll do, I think this is an audition song for her because of all of the head shots and such. At the bottom I have also included a link to Broadwayworld.com where Sierra Boggess (Ariel,in the Little Mermaid on B'way) sings this song at an Alan Menken tribute. Little Mermaid musical seems like a train wreck, but I don't blame her. But, I do blame the lesbian opera director whose next project is to bring Little House on the Prarie to Broadway. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT! Here's the link to the concert: http://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=27091
